Drama fans are excited as two rising forces in Korean entertainment—Gong Hyo Jin and Jung Jun Won—are reportedly in talks to co-star in the upcoming K-drama adaptation of the hit Kakao webtoon A Bona Fide Killer.
On June 18, Sports Chosun broke the news that both actors had received offers to headline the action-thriller series. Their respective agencies have confirmed the offers are under positive review.
Plot Summary: A Mother, A Killer, and a Secret Reawakening
A Bona Fide Killer tells the gripping story of Yu Bo Na, a legendary assassin with the code name "Kingfisher," who mysteriously disappeared from her shadowy organization after becoming pregnant. Now, after a three-year maternity break, she’s drawn back into the underworld, balancing the chaos of motherhood with the deadly skills she tried to leave behind.
If confirmed, Gong Hyo Jin will take on the central role of Yu Bo Na, portraying a character who is both nurturing and lethal, hiding her killer instincts behind a quiet family life.
Opposite her, Jung Jun Won has been offered the role of Kwon Tae Sung, Bo Na’s loving yet clueless husband—a determined investigative reporter who becomes increasingly suspicious as he uncovers details surrounding the return of “Kingfisher.” His investigation may lead him right into the web his wife has long hidden.
From Webtoon to the Screen: High Expectations
The drama is an adaptation of the wildly popular webtoon by the same name, known for blending dark humor, gripping action, and a refreshing take on the assassin genre with a domestic twist.
Fans of the webtoon are particularly thrilled to see Gong Hyo Jin potentially return to TV in such a complex and action-heavy role. Known for her powerful performances in It’s Okay, That’s Love and When the Camellia Blooms, Gong’s ability to bring emotional depth to strong female characters makes her a perfect fit for the role of Bo Na.
Meanwhile, Jung Jun Won, recognized for his roles in Revenant and Missing: The Other Side 2, has steadily gained attention for his acting range and intensity—making him a promising choice for the investigative journalist caught between love and truth.
What Fans Can Expect
If casting is finalized, viewers can look forward to a high-octane, emotionally layered drama that combines thrilling action scenes, suspenseful storytelling, and the emotional tug of a couple grappling with truth and betrayal.
While more details, including production schedule and release platform, are yet to be announced, the drama is already shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2026.
